SGP has shared a success story featuring one of their certified printers:

Overnight Labels Finds Success with Sustainability

Overnight Labels is a label and flexible packaging printing company that became SGP-certified after focusing on their sustainable packaging for over a decade. They were quick to recognize how much attention had begun to surround sustainability in the printing industry, and were acknowledged with awards for their sustainable packaging in 2007. Overnight Labels ultimately decided to seek validation from SGP in order to advance their sustainability initiatives, become more efficient, and help customers choose better alternatives to traditional printing.

Although Overnight Labels has always made an effort to run their shop efficiently, SGP certification and continuous improvement efforts have included decreasing overall ink and paper waste and reducing waste in every possible way. Their efforts to be more efficient have led to drastic reduction in ink waste. Since Overnight Labels became SGP certified, they reduced ink waste from 23,668 pounds to 4,886 pounds.

Becoming SGP certified has helped Overnight Labels grow their business and work with new customers. They have welcomed the opportunity to educate those who once thought of sustainability as simply recycling, and they enjoy introducing their customers to an array of sustainable substrates and water-based inks.

Overnight Labels continues to work on improvement initiatives with their own sustainability goals in mind. Right now, they are working with a new innovation from Avery Dennison, called CleanFlake. This product will help aid the recycling process, making it an important advancement for beverage customers in particular.

Overnight Labels credits their tremendous progress to involving their employees and stakeholders in all sustainable initiatives.

"No one expects you to go to 100% sustainable, however it is beneficial to lay out some tangible goals and measure them along the way. Slight changes in the right direction are still positive changes for your business. Once you see some small success, continue to raise the bar," - Don Earl, President of Overnight Labels.
