Print Week 2018 - Central Region Honors!
Our Print Week traditions not only include celebrating our Print Excellence Award winners, but we honor individuals and companies who have greatly impacted the industry.
The Franklinton Award
In the early 1970’s, the Printing Industry of Central Ohio and the Columbus Club of Printing House Craftsmen came together and created the Franklinton Award. The first was awarded in 1974 and has continued each year to be presented to individuals or groups who have made outstanding public contributions to the central Ohio community. This award, the highest recognition made by the Central Ohio graphic arts industry, honors Benjamin Franklin, the patron saint of the printing industry, who dedicated his life to the betterment of his community and country.
In 2008, the Printing Industries of Ohio • N.Kentucky began presenting this prestigious award to a member of the industry who had made significant contributions to our central Ohio graphic arts community, as opposed to a community leader/contributor in general. Winners of this award since this change include: Jim Hopkins, Hopkins Printing; Bill Stickney, former Printing Industries president; Robert Coyne, formerly of Coyne Graphic Finishing; Robert Boehm of Boehm, Inc.; Gene Scott, PXPOHIO, David Pilcher Sr., Freeport Press; David Olberding, Phototype; Frank Coriell, Veritiv; Dave Marsh, West-Camp Press, and the 2017 honorees, Mary Held and Sue Horn, Old Trail Printing Company.
We are pleased to announce this year’s Central Region Franklinton Award winners who will join the highly regarded group above. The 2018 recipients are board member, Eric Michel and his father Erwin Michel. Eric will be accepting the award for his father, as he passed away last March. We are honored to award the Franklinton Awards to this unique and dedicated father and son.
Erwin worked 47 years in the wholesale paper industry and is remembered as a generous man devoted to his family. He was particularly proud of the wonderful relationships and lifelong friendships he developed with what he often described and the best people in the world! The many people that worked with and for him over the years were considered family in their house and he felt a deep love for each of them.
Eric is incredibly deserving of the Franklinton Award, as he has provided invaluable resources and expertise to the Association (and our members). Through Millcraft, Eric has donated the paper for almost all events the Association has held for the last 10 years. Like his father, he has enjoyed much success over the years of service, but none more valuable than the great relationships and friendships forged with the wonderful people that became customers, co-workers and peers within the industry.

At our Central Region banquet we look forward to continuing our tradition by honoring the Print Excellence Award winners and the Franklinton Award winners. Join us to celebrate!

Attend one (or more) of the three regional banquets and you can vote for that region's People's Choice Award. Registration is now open!
Print Week Events:
In the South, join in the fun at our annual Bierstube at the Hofbrauhaus in Newport, Ky on Tuesday, January 23th from 5:30-7:30 pm. Bring your press operators, bindery workers, customer service reps and your graphic designers for a few hours of fun and networking. This is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

Also in the South, you can attend the annual Southern Region Banquet to honor the Print Excellence Award winners and vote for the People's Choice Award winner. We will also be presenting the 30th Maxwell Winner Award and the 55th Printer of the Year Award. The Southern banquet is set for Thursday, January 25th starting at 6:00 pm.

The Central Region Banquet will honor Print Excellence Awards winners at the Creekside Conference and Event Center in Gahanna on February 1st, at 6:00 pm. The banquet will start at 6:00 p.m.

The Northern Region combines the fun and the awards at the annual Ben's Bash. Join us at the 100th Bomb Group! Held on Thursday, February 8th at 6pm, this event will be the highlight of the print scene. Don't miss it!
