Digital Press Operator

Objective: The Digital Press Operator is responsible for producing high-quality short-run jobs in compliance with job specifications that meet or exceed customer requirements and deadlines on the J Press 750S.  Fuji’s 23x29.5 Sheet-fed Production Inkjet Digital Press uses the same paper-feeding mechanism as those used in sheet-fed offset and stacks in the delivery area the same way as a tradition offset press combined with inkjet technology: paper preconditioning and printhead array inkjetting over a vacuum cylinder and has variable data duplex output with barcode scanning capability. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Follow schedule for daily assignments, communicate effectively with manager, scheduling, prepress, customer service, and other operators to achieve optimum output on press.
  • Perform accurate set-up and efficient operation of digital presses including color matches, loading correct stock, variable data, etc.
  • Monitor and validate quality throughout jobs, targeting to complete jobs within estimated time and materials. Problem solve as needed to meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement including workflow both upstream and downstream such as, but not limited to, improving run speed, imposition, reduced change overs, cutting stock, etc.
  • Accurately enter data collection time and material used on jobs
  • Actively participate in inventory management for stocks, press consumables, and supplies to prevent obsolescence, waste, or shortages
  • Keep manager informed of potential issues, shortages, and equipment problems as soon as they are recognized. Coordinating maintenance and repairs with service company, manager, and other operators as needed.
  • Maintain records for and perform preventative and routine maintenance on equipment to keep it running at optimum speed and quality. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist in other areas as needed

Education & Training Requirements:

  • Technical or College courses in Printing Technology preferred
  • High School diploma or GED along with equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities

Experience: 

  • Previous offset and/or digital press operation preferred
  • Knowledge of digital printing and software programs technology including terminology and paper stocks. Also, familiar with basic printing defects and how to correct them.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Excel and Outlook

Requirements:

  • Able to maintain a high level of physical activity and standing for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to consistently lift 35 lbs
  • Must possess basic math skills to be able to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and fractions
  • Good close vision, distance vision, and color vision
  • Must abide by all safety rules, policies, and procedures
