What You Missed at Community Day...

Source: Sustainable Green Partnership (SGP), November Newsletter

SGP Community Day 2018 was a huge success!  Thank you to everyone who attended and participated.

SGP's leaders, brands, certified facilities and supporters recently returned from a successful 2018 Community Day in Cincinnati, OH. The day began keynote Ryan Mooney-Bullock, the Executive Director of Cincinnati's Green Umbrella, who shared five items needed for collaborative sustainability action teams.

Paul Glynn, manager, Designtex followed to share a success story of finding a way to recycle 100 percent of the company's plastic packaging materials with a little help from Trex. The plastics discussion continued with Ashley Hood-Morley, director of sustainability for the Plastics Industry Association, discussing the future of plastics recycling in the face of China's refusal of US plastic waste (the good news is more domestic recycling capacity is coming online every day).

David McLain, market development manager, PrintPack discussed his organization's success with packaging manufactured from recycled materials before the group broke for a networking lunch. After lunch, Mike Compton, business development manager, Top Value Fabrics, spoke about innovations in artificial fabric recycling. The program wrapped up with ECOR's National Accounts Manager Joe Stapley, and SGIA's Vice President Marci Kinter talking about how trade shows and events can become more sustainable.

The day concluded with a dinner celebrating SGP's 10 year anniversary, the introduction of the SGP Foundation, a 501 c(3) and thoughts on the many plans were made for next year.

Make your plans for the next SGP Community Day next November 13-14, 2019 - more details will follow in the new year!

It's no secret that printing companies are in the business of making money. Every Printer wants to get jobs, print them, get them out the door and get paid.

In today's challenging market, when costs need to be reduced to stay competitive, the focus is primarily on production. Companies look to reduce the cost of their raw materials, employ various procedural "checklists" to eliminate mistakes and disregard necessary process controls to save time.

However, are you confident that all the essential features available on your equipment and software are entirely understood and being integrated to best effect? How much time and money could be saved if all the powerful features you have purchased with your workflow and equipment were utilized to form an efficient and consistent manufacturing process?

Together, we will discuss the process component of your customized manufacturing facility and how managing it properly will allow you to "work smarter, not harder" which will lead to a reduction in printing costs, will enable you to stay competitive in today's market, and keep your sanity.
