EPA Updates and Hazardous Waste Reporting

Source: PIA's Quick Takes, October 13, 2017

EPA win... Printing Industries of America's EHS Department has scored a major victory with the EPA in an effort to streamline air emission reporting. When printing companies need to report their annual air pollution emissions, they need to identify which Source Classification Code (SCC) their emissions should be recorded under. The EPA issues the SCC codes, and the printing industry currently has 85 codes covering many printing processes and activities. At the request of PIA, the EPA has agreed to review the codes and reduce the overall number, as the current SCC codes are outdated, confusing, and some are no longer applicable. This is a significant commitment by the EPA, as they typically do not change these codes. The goal is to reduce the total number of codes and have them reflect current industry printing processes. This in turn will prevent over counting of emissions due to the use of more than one SCC code. Kudos once again Gary Jones.
